Job Packet Evaluation Criteria
The following questions indicate the qualities I look for in the job packet.
- Does the job packet have the required documents (copy of job announcement,
informal report, letter of application, resume)?
- Does the informal report a.) analyze the job description and duties of
that position,
b.) analyze the company being applied to, and
c.) analyze the writer's strengths and fit for the job?
- Does the introduction to letter of application clearly indicate what job
is being applied for, where the applicant found out about the job, and why
the applicant would
be a strong candidate for the job?
- Does the body of the letter have paragraphs with general topic sentences
about the writer's qualifications followed with sentences that give evidence
to support
those claims?
- Does the writer discuss experience and training as evidence that she is
qualified, giving details appropriate to the job?
- Does the conclusion of the letter indicate that the applicant would like
an appointment, refer to the resume, and explain how the reader can contact
the
writer?
- Does the heading to the Resume make it easy to identify the applicant and
to get contact information?
- Does the resume follow document design principles of contrast, repetition,
alignment, and proximity?
- Does the resume give necessary information about previous work experience,
including title, dates of employment, location, duties?
- Does the resume feature important aspects of college education such as
degree, institution, dates, GPA, relevant courses?
- Do the letter of application and resume give the impression of care and
experience rather than of carelessness, inexperience, and vacant space?
